Please note that it takes at least 30 minutes each way to go to the East Bay from the San Francisco Downtown hotels across the Bay Bridge, so 5 hours equals 4 hours in the East Bay. However, the scenery crossing the Oakland Bay Bridge is spectacular!
Emeryville – 21 miles from San Francisco International Airport offers decent accommodations near the Amtrak Station and Bay Street where they have a lot of shops and restaurants, and it’s a convenient location to go to San Francisco sightseeing, Napa Valley, Yosemite by San Joaquin Train, or go to Big Sur and Monterey, then to Los Angeles by Coast Starlight Train.
